DAYTONA BEACH, FL (Wednesday, March 3, 2010) - It was like a phoenix rising
from the ashes in 2007 as Ron Barfield reopened Dillon Motor Speedway as an
asphalt track after a 20 plus year hiatus. Four years later, as an ASA
Member Track, it continues to grow and has become a popular place for weekly
racing and visiting series.
"I tell you what, this has been a lot of fun running this place and I am
excited by the success we have had so far," Barfield said.
"We have had some exciting weekly racing and the visiting series have
put on some outstanding shows. The race fans and sponsors in the Pee Dee area have really supported us and we do our
best to put on a great show for them."
Dillon's 2010 season opens on Saturday, March 13 with a 150-lap 600 HP PASS
Super Late Model feature, Super Trucks, Legends, Bandolero's, Mini Cups, and
Allison Legacy with a 5:00 p.m.
start time.
"We have a great season lined up with each event being something
special," Barfield said. "We are looking at gaining more
exposure for our drivers and sponsors in the Pee Dee
area by having some of our races
broadcasted on local television. I think once the fans who haven't been
at Dillon see what we do there, I think we will gain some more fans."
"Ron has been a longtime friend and we are proud to be a part of the
success that he has had at Dillon Motor Speedway," Dennis Huth, ASA
President said. "He has a great attitude and a true passion for
this sport and that transfers down to his employees and competitors at
Dillon."
The 2007 season was the first for the new Dillon Motor Speedway. The track
continues to grow and improve. Today, Dillon Motor Speedway is a 4/10-mile asphalt oval with
14 degree banking in the corners. The track is somewhat egg shaped with
turns 3/4 different from 1/2.
The track is located on Old Race
Track Rd on Hwy 9, just 1/4 mile from I-95 at
exit 193. Take the 193 exit off of I-95 and travel towards Bennettsville. The
track is one block from the Dillon
Airport, turn by the
Dillon Motor Speedway sign.
